RareField Services: Design, Build & Fine Gardening
RareField offers three distinct services: Design, Build (including general contracting), and Fine Gardening.
The Design + Build model is a tried-and-true process that Master Builders have employed to ensure quality and connectivity between design conception and final construction. For over 30 years, we have built a team of experienced designers and craftspeople that work in tandem, sharing a commitment of excellence. We design according to your budget and aesthetic, and manage each detail of your project to ensure excellence from inception to completion.
Our General Contracting services provide clients with comprehensive oversight and coordination, ensuring every aspect of construction is handled with precision and professionalism. Whether managing subcontractors, scheduling, or on-site execution, we act as your trusted partner to bring the vision to life smoothly and seamlessly.
Our Fine Gardening department allows your garden to grow and mature over time under the watchful eye of our fine gardeners.
How to Work With Us:
Design
Here at RareField we like to be as transparent about our process as possible, so we’ve broken it down:
Contact Us - We’ll gather preliminary info, discuss your wants/needs, elaborate on our experience and expertise, and hopefully set up an in-person consultation. Seeing the site in person is vital to understanding the space.
Consultation - This consists of a preliminary design and rough construction estimate. The consultation is intended to make sure we’re on the same page for the overall layout, materials, and budget. Once we’ve agreed upon the scope and construction budget, we then draw up a design agreement.
Design - After the contract is signed, we dive right into the construction documents. Typically we include: A layout plan with materials and elements (walls, decks, pergolas, bbq’s, spas) specified, a planting plan with images and species based on your microclimate, a lighting plan for an exterior low-voltage system to accent the best parts of your project, and individual construction details for custom elements unique to your project. We’ll send progress updates along the way to get feedback, and make sure you’re happy with the course we’re taking. The design phase is vital to making sure everything is accounted for before we break ground, it allows us to provide an exact construction bid with confidence.
Final Design & Construction Estimate - The design phase is complete with an approved set of construction documents detailing every aspect of your project, as well as a comprehensive bid for the installation of everything as drawn. We'll then draft up the construction agreement and it's on to the build phase!
Interior or Commercial Work - Follows a similar path, and is custom for every situation. We are happy to discuss your vision and goals, and create a plan of action.
Build
This is the phase where your project moves from dreams to reality, and the most integral part of the RareField experience. Our selected and trained, in-house crew will execute the design with a keen eye for the beauty of each detail, and a skilled hand to ensure the longevity of your project. Our craftspeople and design team work hand-in-hand to ensure every detail has been carefully thought out. We pride ourselves on thinking about and creating an intimate experience within your space, where each decision is something that will be seen and felt for years to come.
While the majority of our builds are our own designs, we have collaborated with architects, designers, and landscape architecture firms outside of RareField to impart this attention to detail to their work as well. With this, we also offer general contracting services to oversee and manage any project from start to finish.

Fine Gardening
The logical extension of our Design/Build services, RareField’s Fine Gardening Program is the perfect follow-up, accounting for all of your gardening, irrigation and lighting needs, as well as refinishing your decking and stonework as your space ages with grace and becomes ever more and more as it was designed to be.
No matter how large or small the space, your garden is an important extension of your home and living space. It is your immediate point of interaction with our region's enjoyable year-round climate and cosmopolitan design ethos. When you become a client of RareField's Fine Gardening Program you can expect that all of your planted spaces will be well-cared for, organically, aesthetically, and ready for you to step into them and enjoy or entertain.
Additions and edits to your space can be included and implemented by the same in-house team of designers and craftspeople. So whether you’re returning home from a trip or the office, expecting gathering or a quiet afternoon, you can relax and enjoy knowing it's all been taken care of, with a single point of contact, by people you can trust.
